The big dog didn’t like the water. The little dogs dove right in, playing and nipping while the big guy stared at the horizon as if filled with ennui.
The big dog sighed. His owner rested his hand on the dog’s head—cupped it, like a baby. The little dogs ran out of sight following the curve of the shoreline. They both could hear them barking, joyous, unhinged as the wind picked up and the little birds took flight.
