Sea otters hold hands when they sleep so they won’t float apart. I reach for your hand, you reach for mine in bed, tabby cat on the pillow above your head, tuxedo by my feet. Framed by love we float through the night. Through our life: the den-leader-soccer-mom-mini-van-years, the poly trials, 12-step programs, infusions, counseling, psychics, remission, and graduations. We hold on side by side, afloat on the bay, rising, falling, ebb and flow. How we got here I don’t know— the knowledge of which means less to me than the feeling of your hand in mine.
