Why Not?

We live in the Bay Area near the John George Psychiatric Pavilion, located on a country road edged with woods. The long, sloping hill has no sidewalks, except in front of John George. Occasionally we see deer, usually no pedestrians. One day my husband and I were driving by, bickering about the day’s to-do list, and saw a young bearded guy in a superhero cape strolling down the sidewalk, his step jaunty. He looked very happy.
We looked at each other and laughed, suddenly happy too.
