… from your eyes and forehead? Your hair covered, your nose and mouth obscured. How am I to know you from your gloved hands and your indistinct voice? Your restricted movements. How am I to know from the featureless beeping background the time or day or place? We look past each other, neither breathing in each other’s direction, not daring to break the protective shields that have held our marriage together for ten years, and I wonder if I ever knew you.
