The night my first period started, my sister and I were watching the movie Harvey, and we laughed. Her hair seemed heavy on her shoulders, a long, thick curtain. I peered through whenever I could to catch a glimpse of her strong cheekbones moving.

Later that night, she told me about an adventure she had with a man until I fell asleep. When I woke up, I snuck into the living room and found her there talking to the cat. The cat was laughing.
