Boneless, Skinless

by Guy Biederman

Halfway through dinner I realize we’re saying goodbye. You with your new husband, met at 30,000 feet, Business Class, in love/happy, I don’t know the difference. The mystery dessert you brought sits in a pink bakery box tied with red string, a forbidden afterthought. Sunflowers crowd one another in a fluted vase facing every direction. Serving signature grilled chicken, I’m hoping breasts are done, thighs not dry. Your Landcruiser idles at the curb, Oaxaca-packed for two plus your Doodle, nomadic nights in your foreseeable forecast.

Guy Biederman is the author of seven books, including Here’s Where We Get Off, micro fiction, Blue Light Press, 2026. He divides his time between the California bay area and the New Mexico mountains. His coffee name is Gud, apparently.
