Wigleaf Longlist 2026
Congratulations to Mikki Aronoff, Jo Gatford, Sarah Lynn Hurd, and Kip
by Jack Morris
Our lungs may rely on different media to function but since the day I won you fair and square from the grubby man at the amusement park you have been my everything and, as we laze together in my tin bath and you winnow between my hairy legs, I wish that I was yours.
I have imagined frying you in butter: possessing you in one glorious gulp but how could I contain such brightness? You are golden, sinewy, delicate and I am grey, flabby, drab. Even as you flicker against my wistful skin, I know you would not have plucked me from the shelf.
I slide down the bath, let the water swallow me.
Soon you will find me irresistible: will nibble at my unseeing eyes, sucker delicately onto my bloated tongue, devour all my pointless fleshy parts and finally, finally I will wholly, irrevocably, eternally belong to you.
Jack Morris lives in Brighton, UK. She has a Masters in Creative Writing from the Open University. She’s hopelessly dedicated to brevity and is proud to be in both Best Microfictions 2026 and the Fish Anthology 2026.
