Under Pressure

When the anglerfish rises from the deepest, darkest part of the ocean, past fish after fish that’ve never seen her likeness before, we gather around phones to witness her risking it all for a chance at new life. She’s done waiting for the perfect circumstances. The marine biologists say the anglerfish doesn’t stand a chance, say she’s probably sick in a vertical current. We hope they’re wrong. We hope she finds a new life, a new love, a new home. But deep down in our darkest parts, we know the change in pressure means the anglerfish is probably already dead.
