Special Call For Holiday Issue

Gooseberry Pie launched in December 2023 with our first issue published January 18, 2024. What started as an idea to publish one six-sentence story per week quickly evolved into a twice-monthly issue packed with micros. We would like to extend our thanks to our incredible readers and submitters. Your continuous support and enthusiasm drive everything we do.

In celebration, we’re publishing our first year-end holiday issue on December 5th. And we have a prompt:

  1. Write a fictional story about a holiday. This can be about any day your protagonist celebrates as a holiday such as Easter, Summer Solstice, New Year’s Eve, or their family’s annual reunion in Las Vegas.
  2. Include at least one of the following words: Vacant, Quaint, Tangerine, Worthless, Trek, Giggle
  3. Stories must be exactly six-sentences with no more than 400 words.
  4. Only one submission per individual. Copy the story into the body of an email and send to gooseberrypie.contest@gmail.com between October 3 and October 26, 2024. We don’t open attachments.
  5. Include a maximum 40 word bio.
  6. No previously published material. Do not resubmit previously declined submissions.
Human generated content only (No AI).
  7. Simultaneous submissions are fine. Notify us promptly if accepted elsewhere.

Up to 10 stories will be selected for the Holiday Issue. Each entry selected will receive $75 USD. Must be able to receive payment by Venmo or PayPal.

The Holiday issue call is open to everyone regardless of when you may have last submitted to -and-or- may have been published in Gooseberry Pie.

Winning entrants will be notified by November 15, 2024.

General submissions to Gooseberry Pie always remain open.
