Spring surfaced. The hammock was still off-limits. In their winter folds, she’d taken him on her porch. It was the first of eight Fridays. He’d wrapped his fingers around the metal chainlinks, said he was ready for warm weather. She’d brushed snow from her knees, knowing they wouldn’t make a different season.
