They Were Roommates

History will say “they were roommates.” And, to be fair, Eve and Bianca were just roommates. But when Eve’s mom died suddenly at the age of 59, Bianca held her for hours while she sobbed and dry heaved and lent her a black turtleneck to wear to the wake, and now that they don’t live together anymore, she sends Eve tulips every year on the anniversary of her mom’s passing. And when Bianca had jaw surgery, Eve wiped the drool from her chin and made hundreds of smoothies — but never with banana because Bianca hates banana — and even though they don’t live together anymore, Eve remembers that Bianca shouldn’t chew gum and keeps mints in her purse instead so that when they see each other, they can both freshen their breath. So yeah, they were roommates. And they were more.
